Yarradale Stud manager Bernadette Hamill received her Godolphin Dedication to Breeding Award at Randwick on Tuesday.
Hamill was among six nominees for Australia’s inaugural Stud and Stable Staff Awards. Gai Waterhouse’s foreman Mark Newnham was the overall winner after claiming the Godolphin Dedication to Racing Award.
The six category winners each pocketed $10,000.
Bernie first started at Yarradale in 1996 while completing a university degree and was appointed Stud Manager in 2004. She has worked in the industry since 1981 including stints at Cheveley Park in England and Three Chimneys in Kentucky.
The Godolphin Awards have been introduced to Australia after a collaboration between Thoroughbred Breeders Australia and Racing Australia. They recognise the hard work and dedication of stud and stable staff in Australia.
A total of 176 entries were submitted from both regional and metropolitan areas across all states and territories in Australia.
Johan Petzer, Chair of the Judging Panel, congratulated all the individual winners of the various categories. “They are all well-deserved,” he said. “In addition, I would like to acknowledge the extremely high standard of all nominations received. I would like to thank all of our partners and everyone who helped make the awards such a success.”
