Former Yarradale Stud resident War Chant (USA) sired his 47th black-type winner after Memory Parade stole a break in the LR Northam Cup (1600m) on Sunday.
Memory Parade (6m War Chant - Kelvin Rose by Redoute's Choice) led home a stable quinella for trainers Sean and Jake Casey from short-priced favourite Aberdeen Flyer (Astern). A winning purse of $82,000 sent her earning to $429,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $90,000.
Jake Casey said they fancied the favourite but winning jockey Tash Faithfull had other ideas before the home turn. “Tash took off and Memory Parade kept the momentum going. She has been running good races without any luck and deserves this win.”
Faithfull reacted to the slow pace set by Cool Memory (Impending) when she circled the field at the 600m mark. “There was no speed on paper and they were walking up front. It’s my first ride on her and we had cover but when they slackened again we got on the bike and into a rhythm.
“I thought she was a bit of a grinder after looking at the tapes but she let down for me with a great turn of foot.”
War Chant (USA) sired Memory Parade from Kelvin Rose who is an unraced half-sister to the dam of star sprinter Regal Roller (Regal Classic). He was a Group 1 winner of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, Toorak Hcp and Futurity Stakes at Caulfield in 2004-05.
The Northam Cup result came a week after War Chant gelding Please Mizter won the final race of the season in Kalgoorlie for Champion Goldfields trainer Peter Fernie in the Tonkin Newmarket (1400m).
Please Mizter (5g War Chant – Mizlecki by Lope de Vega) is an iron horse having raced every month from April until October while also completing a front-running hat-trick last Sunday week for managing part-owner Andrew Inglis and Fernie.
The Yarradale-bred graduate is the first foal of Mizlecki who was a Listed winner of the Raconteur Stakes, Sheila Gwynne Classic, Belmont Oaks and Old Comrade Stakes in Yarradale’s green and gold colours.
He was a $40,000 bargain at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale and Yarradale also has her yearling filly by Lightsaber.
War Chant (Danzig) shuttled to Yarradale from Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky for three southern books before settling here permanently in 2014. He was Champion WA 2YO Sire in 2015-16 and the best of his locally-bred progeny has been G1 MVRC William Reid Stakes (1200m) winner Silent Sedition.
The Breeders Cup meeting at Keeneland this coming weekend marks the anniversary of War Chant’s G1 Breeders' Cup Mile victory at Churchill Downs in 2000.
