Hong Kong agent David Price unveiled another promising off-shore prospect on Tuesday when WA-bred 3yo Run Willy Run was a dominant debut winner at Wodonga.

Run Willy Run was backed into an odds-on favourite following five barrier trials and stripped in tip-top order for the Wodonga Jewellers Plate (1100m).  He was a cut above maiden company and Billy Egan rode him accordingly to score by a length and change from Polytelis (Doubtland).

The Patrick Payne trainee sat outside the speed before toying with his rivals in the run home.  “He had a proper education at the trials but is still a bit new,” Egan reported.  “He put himself into the race and then switched off.

“He went clear in the straight and then waited for the others.  But when he sensed the filly coming he kicked away again.  He feels progressive and Patrick’s horses always keep improving in the long run.”

Run Willy Run (3g Gingerbread Man - Streak Away by O’Reilly) was bred by Yarradale Stud and sold for $60,000 to Price Bloodstock and Payne at the 2025 Perth Magic Millions.  He’s the fifth winner from five foals from Streak Away including last week’s Belmont winner Streak Of God (Playing God).

David Price established Price Bloodstock in 1997 buying yearlings in Australia and New Zealand, typically under $100,000, and has them educated in Australia and imported as Privately Purchased Griffins (PPG).  He reached a 1000 win milestone in March when He Was Me (Needs Further) and Elite Golf (Frosted) were successful at Sha Tin.

Payne rode in Hong Kong between 1994 and 2004 achieving a winning strike rate of 15%.  He was also aboard Northerly when the WA icon won a second Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in 2002.

Gingerbread Man’s Hong Kong connection commenced immediately after Yarradale homebred Ima Single Man won the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot in 2020.  He was sold to clients of trainer Tony Cruz and went on to earn the equivalent of AUD 2.08 million before signing off in July 2024.

The Chris So-trained Perfect Day is Gingerbread Man’s latest flag-bearer having won the All You Wish Hcp (1400m) at the final Sha Tin meeting of last season on July 12.  He was prominent on the Sha Tin all-weather worktab on Tuesday morning ahead of the Hong Kong season-opener this Sunday, September 6.
