Yarradale Stud filly Girl In Flight will be aimed at the G1 Australasian Oaks after keeping her unbeaten record intact at Caulfield on Saturday.

Girl In Flight (3f Commands – Rossiya by Machiavellian) lived up to the pre-race hype in the Leigh Thomas Gift (1700m) following dominant wins at Sale and Pakenham.  The Robbie Griffith-trained three-year-old settled at the rear of the field and, despite being held up in the straight, reeled in the leaders to beat Collins Street by a half length.

"I have always thought that a race like the Australasian Oaks over 2000 metres would be ideal," Griffiths said.  "I don't think the distance will be a concern, she has a fantastic pedigree - she couldn't have been any stronger to the line.

“For a tall filly she has got a great turn of speed and great balance which allows her to really run a good sectional,” Griffiths added.  “She’s a late November foal and we’re looking at Adelaide in May because she kicked off her racing after the spring carnival.”

Besides the $48,000 first prizemoney, Girl In Flight’s connections also picked up a $50,000 Super VOBIS bonus.

Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers sold Girl In Flight through the Swettenham Stud draft for $60,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.  He stayed in the filly and the syndicate also includes Bob Baumann, Andrew Doyle, Frank Giacco, Janice Thomas and Belinda Emons.

"Everything is pointing in the right direction,” winning jockey Ryan Maloney said.  "She has got a lot of class about her and I reckon she's going to make a real serious horse in the next 12 months.”

“She’s still very green and has improved every start.  She has a really nice temperament and I just hope that I can stay aboard.”

Girl In Flight's dam Rossiya has a 2yo Musket colt named Kostyazilch and the mare has been covered by Patronize this year.
