Ron Sayers would have been walking on air when he returned to scale with Bippo No Bungus following the Listed Starstruck Classic at Ascot.
Although Bippo No Bungus races in the red and black silks of Geisel Park, it was Sayers who greeted the Dubawi mare after her black-type breakthrough on Saturday.
Bippo No Bungus (4m Dubawi – Quest For Pleasure by Quest For Fame) is raced by Geisel Park’s Eddie Rigg, Ken Hunter and Sayers who usually welcomes Yarradale Stud’s green and gold colours back to the enclosure.
The Listed win ensures Bippo No Bungus is an attractive dual-purpose mare. She is the 65th stakes winner by Darley champion Dubawi and is a half-sister to G2 Queensland Guineas winner Torio’s Quest.
A little over an hour later, Sayers and Rigg were basking in the reflected glory of Ihtsahymn’s victory in the G2 C B Cox Stakes. They bought his dam Umatune six months after she foaled Perth’s latest star and they have been rewarded with fillies by War Chant and Musket.
Sayers stands both stallions in partnership with Rigg at Yarradale.
“The War Chant yearling will be retained by Ron and Eddie,” Yarradale’s stud manager Bernadette Hamill said on Monday. “They are 50- 50 owners in Umatune and her Musket filly was foaled on November 1. She hasn’t cycled properly since then and it’s getting a bit late to cover her again.”
Saturday’s feature double followed a winning week for Yarradale stallions.
Scandal Keeper (Danzig) sired a double with Classified Info and Credo at Ascot on Wednesday. And Musket (Redoute’s Choice) weighed in with maiden winner Wargamer on Friday.
Yarradale shuttlers Frost Giant (Giant’s Causeway) and War Chant (Danzig) arrived back in the United Stakes on the weekend for their next northern hemisphere books at Keane Farm and Three Chimneys, respectively.
Frost Giant was a record-breaking New York freshman in 2012 and his colt Loki's Vengeance added the finishing touches to a runaway second-season title on Saturday.
Loki's Vengeance (2c Frost Giant - Subtle Sweetness by During) defeated his front-running stablemate The Rhythmisright (Into Mischief) by 5 lengths second time out at Aqueduct.
The first Sunspeed War Chants have been catalogued by Yarradale and Geisel Park for the 2014 Perth Magic Millions. His yearlings are also a part of the Book 1 consignments from Alwyn Park, Dawson, De Grey Park, Gold Front Thoroughbreds, Korilya and Mungrup Studs.
