Yarradale Stud will offer 8 yearlings by G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner War Chant at Sunday’s annual sale at the picturesque stud nestled in the rolling hills of Gidgegannup.

War Chant’s first Australian conceived stock will race next season.  The son of Danzig’s first yearlings were the highlight of February’s Perth premier yearling sale where 21 lots sold for an average price of $94,524 – with the top price of $250,000 paid by Yarradale Stud for a filly from Most Secret, sold by Dawson Stud.

War Chant, who sired the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Chamberlain Bridge, shuttles between Three Chimneys Stud in Kentucky and Yarradale.

Lot 13 is a handsome War Chant colt and is the first foal of the unraced mare Enticing Smile (Hussonet).  Second-dam Leica Smile (At Talaq) won the G1 Australasian Oaks (2000m).

Leica Smile is a half-sister to Leica Vista the dam of Sandown Guineas winner Moon Dragon and the WA-owned Albury Cup winner Niblick. The colt is an early foal, born on August 22, 2012.

“He is her first foal so he is not overly big,” studmaster Bernie Hamill told WA Newspapers journalist Robert Edwards this week.  “He is a neat, correct and racy individual.”

Lot 22 is a bay filly from the Thunder Gulch mare Let’s Get Even.  Her dam has been a top producer of winners with five of her six foals to have hit the track winning, including the Group 3 Norman Robinson winner Get Square, Paramour, Vanquish Delight, Craig’s Pride and Sweet Home Chicago.

“She is not an overly big filly but her dam is only 14 hands,” Hamill said.  “None of the dam’s stock are overly big.  She’s an end of the year foal so there is room for her to grow.”

Yarradale will offer a bay colt by another Danzig stallion Ad Valorem from Over mare Long Walk (Lot 15).  The colt’s full brother Uate won the G3 Skyline Stakes and was runner-up to Helmet in the 2011 G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

His half-brothers Rorke’s Drift (Commands) and Deakes (Shaft) are both winners.  “He is an early foal, born on September 1, 2012,” Hamill said.  “He’s nice and neat and  is a very solid colt.”

Hamill also liked Lot 3 (Colt by War Chant - Vainremer); “Very typical of the breed.  The mare has produced 9 foals to race for 7 winners.”

Lot 11 (Colt by Scandal Keeper - Colluvium);  “He’s a half-brother to Euclassy Thing”

Lot 19 (Filly by Scandal Keeper - Los Pelambres);  “A big filly with plenty of scope and is very correct.”

Twelve stallions including Henny Hughes, who was sold by Rangeview Stud to Japan last year, Hard Spun, Rothesay, Scandal Keeper, Musket and Heritage will be represented by yearlings on Sunday.
