Yarradale Stud’s decision to buy Miss Davinci at the 2008 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale is finally paying dividends.
Miss Davinci (Galileo) cost $220,000 but she died within a year of arriving at Gidgegannup.
Her sole foal – a Pins colt named Pininci – is a rising six year-old and he scored a belated black-type victory in the LR Beaufine Stakes (1000m) at Belmont on Saturday.
Pininci defeated boom sprinter Smoko by a length after skipping clear at the top of the straight. “He travelled sweetly and the firm surface helped,” winning jockey Patrick Carberry said. “I held him up and then went through the gears before letting him down.
“He’s only got a short, sharp sprint but he’s competitive and I was fairly confident knowing Smoko had a tough run.”
Pininci is part-owned and trained by David Harrison for Lex & Shirley Piper and Yarradale Stud’s Ron Sayers. He has now won 6 races up to 1100 metres and earned over $211,000.
Miss Davinci was unraced but attracted several prospective buyers for her residual value as a broodmare. Her older half-brother Racer’s Edge (Rory’s Jester) was a Group 1 winner of the 1996 C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield before embarking on a successful career at Chatswood Stud.
Sayers purchased several other young mares at the 2008 Inglis Sale including South African bred Group 1 winner Arabian Lass. She foaled Sunspeed stakes performers Soldier's Lass and Dash For Home and has a yearling colt by War Chant and a filly foal by Scandal Keeper.
