War Chant (USA) signalled he will be a force in Perth’s early-season juveniles when Chanzig scored a strong trial win at Lark Hill on Monday.

The athletic youngster clocked 56.91s in a 950m hit-out for part-owner and trainer Ben Pearce.

Chanzig is from the first WA crop of War Chant who shuttled to Yarradale Stud for three southern books before making a permanent move to the Gidgegannup stud this year.

He is also the sire of smart filly Habenera who was runner-up in a 400m trial at Lark Hill.

Chanzig (2g War Chant - Fairy Fix by King Ivor) was a $45,000 purchase from Dawson Stud at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions.  He is from a half-sister to the dam of Group 2 winners Pure Energy (Reisling Slipper) and Segments (Schillaci Stakes).

Dawson Stud owner Graham Daws kept a share in Chanzig along with stable clients Adam Fairy, Garry Nelson and Steve Orrock.  Daws had catalogued the top-priced yearling at this year’s Perth Magic Millions when the War Chant – Most Secret filly was knocked down for $250,000.

War Chant has sired 32 Kentucky bred stakes winners and, overall, he has been represented by the winners of over 1100 races and $34 million in prizemoney.

His Italian based two year-old colt Time Chant added more black-type with a convincing Listed victory in the Premio Campobello (1800m) in Milan on Saturday.  He had won at Listed level in the Criterium Partenopeo (1500m) in July.

War Chant’s USA filly Enchanting Lisa earned her first black-type with a Group 2 placing in the Chilukki Hcp (1600m) at Churchill Downs on Saturday.  The younger half-sister to Horse of the Year Wise Dan was coming off an impressive allowance win at Keeneland.

Yarradale Stud stands War Chant for a $17,600 (inc gst) service fee.
