Changes to Yarradale Stud’s 2015 roster were reflected in results for the opening events at Belmont on Saturday.
Unbeaten two year-old Man Booker brought up a hat-trick for his sire Discorsi in Race 1 and Neville Parnham’s mare Vital Importance bobbed up for Vital Equine in Race 2.
Discorsi died in February after five books at Yarradale and Vital Equine is the newcomer to the Stud’s line-up this year.
MAN BOOKER stepped up with wins over 1000m and 1200m in June and graduated to a third at 1400m against the odds in the Westspeed Plate. The Dan Morton trained rookie started a $1.45 favourite but was pocketed until gun apprentice Lucy Warwick found a gap late in proceedings.
“He was in a world of pain in the straight,” Morton admitted. “There was a lot of horse under Lucy and he made it through the trouble to get the job done.”
Man Booker (2g Discorsi – Morine by Danetime) has earned $156,200 with more dollars on the horizon. “He’s still raw. There’s plenty of upside and he will keep developing,” Morton added. “We will probably put him aside now and the break will do him good.”
Korilya Stud’s Ellie Giles sold him for $25,000 at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions and she maintained the Yarradale connection with younger half-brothers by Scandal Keeper and Gingerbread Man arriving in the last two years
VITAL IMPORTANCE is owned and trained by Neville Parnham and she saluted for the 8th time in 29 starts in the Thomas Sabo Hcp (1600m). “The mile at Belmont really suits her,” Parnham said. “She was left in front a long way from home and seemed to switch off in the last 100 metres.”
Vital Importance (4m Vital Equine - French Knickers by Dehere) was bred by Chris Gales and cost just $5,000 out of his Gervase Park consignment at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions. She has banked $384,700 including $80,000 in Westspeed bonuses.
Vital Equine is an Irish bred son of Danetime and was a Group 2 winner of the 2006 Champagne Stakes at York. He returned the following term to finish second to Cockney Rebel in the G1 English 2000 Guineas.
Yarradale will stand Vital Equine for a $3,850 (inc gst) fee this year.
