Frost Giant (USA) was a focal point at the Ocala 2YO Sale this week when three of his fillies made $150k, $140k and $100k.
The Yarradale Stud shuttler has a 60% winning strike-rate in North America from his base at Keane Stud in New York. His first four crops have won more than 230 races and among his black-type brigade are West Hills Giant, Loki's Vengeance, Comandante and Frosty Margarita.
Those results came off small crops of 32 and 24 named foals from his first two books.
Top price for the Frost Giants in Florida was a $150,000 filly from Reata's Vixen (Sligo Bay). Her Irish-bred dam is a half-sister to Royal Currier whose 15 wins included the LR Diablo Stakes and LR Mr Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park.
Southern Chase Farm breezed the filly in 20.40s which was just 0.2s outside the best time for 400m.
The Frost Giant - Magical Solution (Stormin Fever) filly was next best at $140,000. Her dam won the LR Niagara Stakes and is a half-sister to G1 Vosburgh Stakes winner The Lumber Guy.
Frost Giant’s first locally-bred yearlings were offered at the Perth Magic Millions in February and were purchased by astute trainers Trevor Andrews, Neville Parnham and Dan Morton. He missed the shuttle flight to Western Australia last year due to a bout of colic while in quarantine but will return to Yarradale in 2016.
The Group 1 winning son of Giant’s Causeway will launch the 8th annual Yarradale yearling sale on site at Gidgegannup on Sunday, May 22. He has 12 yearlings on offer starting with Lot 1, an August 22 filly from Miss Belair (Grand Lodge).
