Trainer Vern Brockman topped Sunday’s Yarradale Stud yearling sale with $54,000 for a colt by Scandal Keeper.

The chestnut is the final foal from Smytzer’s Bouquet (Marscay) who was a Bendigo winner at her only start for Tony Santic.  Her most successful runner to date has been Neville Parnham’s $250,000 earner Dance Works (Royal Academy).

Scandal Keeper (Danzig) was a Newmarket winner for Sheikh Mohammed and his three-quarter sister is the dam of Sepoy.  Lightly used before transferring to Yarradale, he has sired 20 individual winners, including 5 stakes performers, from 48 starters.

A Blackfriars filly made $41,000 a day after her sire bagged the G1 Goodwood with Black Heart Bart.  Trainer Jimmy Taylor had the final say for the second foal from Ascot juvenile winner Public Perception (Charge Forward).  The mare is by a Roberto-line sire and so is the dam of Black Heart Bart.

Champion Yarradale stallion War Chant (USA) sired Group 3 Italian winner Time Chant on Saturday and his top-priced yearling was the filly from Classic Miss (Bletchley Park).  Her dam is a sister to G3 Lee-Steere Stakes winner Destino and she was knocked down to Gavin Foster for $40,000.

Spirited bidding by the State’s leading trainers saw 27 lots changed hands at an average of $24,592.  Adam Durrant went home with 3 yearlings and other multiple buyers included Aquanita Racing’s Simon Miller, Dan Morton and Steve Wolfe.

The majority of passed-in lots were later leased by Yarradale owner Ron Sayers.
