War Chant (USA) gelding Suboric is on a hat-trick after an unbeaten start to his latest campaign for Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan.
Since returning from a spell last month, Suboric has saluted at Newcastle (1300m) and Kembla Grange (1400m). “That was a huge win last time,” Ryan said. “He's a talented horse.”
The progressive three year-old was too strong for his rivals first-up and then benefited from a superb Mitchell Bell to win again at Kembla. After settling at the back of the field, Bell took a short cut along the fence before marching clear for convincing victory.
Suboric (3g War Chant - Innsbruck by Commands) is owned by Stallion Racing’s David Raphael after making $200,000 from Gold Front Thoroughbreds at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions. “I rated him the best colt of the Sale,” Raphael said at Belmont.
Innsbruck’s older half-brother Unencumbered won the 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast before commencing his stud career at Three Bridges Thoroughbreds. Her Domesday colt was sold to China at the 2015 Perth Magic Millions.
Suboric has only been out of a place once in a 7 start career. He won a Hawkesbury maiden over 1800m in November and Ryan will get him up to similar journeys deeper into this preparation.
War Chant (Danzig) stands at Yarradale Stud and he holds a narrow lead in the WA second-season premiership with earnings of $1.12 million. Second-placed Alfred Nobel is just $23,000 in arrears
