Material Man completed a south-west carnival clean-sweep for Yarradale Stud in the Listed Bunbury Cup (2200m) on Thursday.
Yarradale stallions claimed all 5 feature races run at Pinjarra and Bunbury in the last month.
MATERIAL MAN (Vital Equine) - LR AHA Cup & LR Bunbury Cup
Material Man is trained by Justin Warwick for owner-breeders Mike & Jill MacDermott and he believes there are bigger races ahead for the up-and-coming stayer. “He was three deep and is as tough as boots,” Warwick said before connections accepted the trophy and the bulk of the $120,000 prizemoney.
“He’s probably even a bit tougher than I thought after today’s run. We might set him for the Perth Cup.”
Yarradale owner Ron Sayers stands his sire Vital Equine with Rosalee Park’s Wayne & Tracey Rodwell at Serpentine. An Irish-bred son of Danetime, he’s a Top 10 stallion in WA with earnings of $912,000 this season.
MAN BOOKER (Discorsi) - LR Pinjarra Classic & LR Bunbury Stakes
Man Booker is raced by a syndicate of two-dozen ladies and has now earned over $680,000 from 7 wins in 13 starts. He won the G2 WA Guineas in 2015 but was sidelined for the majority of 2016.
He’s racing in career-best form and is unbeaten in three starts since resuming this year. The Dan Morton trained sprinter-miler is the best galloper by Discorsi (Galileo) who covered five books at Yarradale before succumbing to colic in 2015.
Man Booker’s younger half-brother Achernar Star has propelled Yarradale Stud stallion Gingerbread Man into the Top 5 for the Australian first-season sires’ premiership this season.
QUILISTA (Scandal Keeper) - LR Rangeview Stud 3YO Classic
Warwick also prepares Quilista who has won four in a row since her maiden at Pinjarra on the Australia Day long-weekend. “She was hard work to begin with and it’s taken a long time to get her here,” he explained. “She’s always had above average ability and is only now sorting herself out.”
Warwick and part-owners Livio & Renato Divitini bought the filly for $10,000 at the 2015 Perth Magic Millions and she’s paid that back with $155,400 in prizemoney including Westspeed bonuses of $52,500.
Scandal Keeper (Danzig) was put down after a paddock accident earlier this month at Yarradale. He sired Quilista from Brocky’s Ace (Surtee) and the mare has a yearling colt by Yarradale young-gun Gingerbread Man and a colt on the ground by Vital Equine.
Yarradale has announced Sunday, May 21 as the proposed date for its annual yearling sale at Gidgegannup.
