Ever-reliable mare Rosewood Hill has sprouted wings to lead home a trifecta for Yarradale Stud at Ascot.
The calming influence of apprentice Aaron Mitchell was a major factor for her last-stride victory on Wednesday. The $3 favourite was strung up in traffic at the top of the straight before finding clear air and flying home for owner Danelle Miller and trainer Dan Pearce.
Rosewood Hill (Rothesay) defeated the dead-heaters Culverin (Musket) and Dance Master (Spielmeister) by a half-head in a captivating photo-finish to D’Orsogna Italian Raceday Hcp (2150m).
The trio were all bred at Yarradale Stud in another successful result for the Gidgegannup nursery leading up to its Yearling Sale next Sunday, May 21.
“Aaron handled her a treat – that’s the way she likes to be ridden,” Pearce said as the mare returned to scale. “She got a cheeky run through and really hit the line. She’s tough and hopefully the handicapper looks after her so we can come back here on Saturday.”
Rosewood Hill was catalogued for the 2014 Yarradale Stud Yearling Sale but didn’t make her reserve and Yarradale later leased her to Pearce. Her dam Salisbury Street (Blevic) won a Listed Sheila Gwynne Stakes for owner-breeder John Chalmers and trainer David Harrison in 2005.
Yarradale’s latest winning run started at the Bunbury carnival with feature winners Material Man (Vital Equine), Quilista (Scandal Keeper) & Man Booker (Discorsi). And it has continued in the last week with the following winners owned, sired or bred by Yarradale;
Ascot May 3 - The Diary (Scandal Keeper), Santiago Gal (War Chant) & Two Silver Trees (Encosta De Lago)
Albany May 4 - Marega (Scandal Keeper); Ascot May 6 - Salorsci (Discorsi)
Kalgoorlie May 6 - Thug Life (War Chant), Senorita Bonita (Scandal Keeper)
Northam May 7 - Prince Turbo (Vital Equine); Ascot May 10 - Rosewood Hill (Rothesay)
Pinjarra May 11 - The Diary (Scandal Keeper)
There’s another winning update in waiting for the 2017 Yarradale Yearling Sale when Wild Ava attempts to make it two in a row at Kembla Grange this Saturday. She came from the clouds to nail Widden homebred Tswalu on May 2 and will eat up the extra ground over 1400m.
Wild Ava was bred at Yarradale and sold for $90,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions 2YO Sale. Trainer Marc Connors paid up for the G1 Queensland Oaks next month but the classic will probably come too quickly for the promising daughter of High Chaparral.
Yarradale has entered a Frost Giant half-sister to Wild Ava as Lot 12 next Sunday. Their dam Single Spice won the 2011 Listed Supremacy Stakes at Ascot for Aquanita trainer Simon Miller.
