There’s more black-type in the horizon for Yarradale Stud’s rising stars Electric Light (Vital Equine) and Mizlecki (Lope De Vega).

The 4yo mares rose to the occasion once again with a feature double at Ascot’s Karrakatta Stakes meeting on Saturday.

Electric Light nosed out Lady Cosmology in a thrilling finish to the Marjorie Charleson Classic (1200m).  “That was a good effort and she has a ripper record,” trainer Adam Durrant said.  “We’ve been a fraction behind the eight-ball with her fitness so it was a courageous effort to win today.

“She’s gone from a maiden last prep to winning this race second-up.   She had some setbacks early on but is all heart and we could look at a race like the (LR) Hannans Hcp.”

Electric Light is ready for that level with 8 wins in her first 11 starts for owner-breeder Andy Phelan.  He used Yarradale sire Vital Equine (Ire) over Candle Smoke (Trade Fair) who won twice at the provincials during a brief six-start career.  She has yearling filly by Alfred Nobel, a filly foal by My Admiration and is back in foal to Vital Equine.

Mizlecki carried Yarradale’s green and gold colours to a four-length victory in the LR Old Comrade Stakes (1600m) on Saturday.  She sprinted to the front in the straight and kept going further and further ahead of Properantes (Danehill Express) and Variation (War Chant).

“She’s a terrific little mare and I’m so pleased for her,” trainer Fred Kersley said.  “She fractured a pastern last year and has been a bit unlucky not to break through before now.”

Yarradale inherited Mizlecki after buying her dam Miss Strezelecki (Al Maher) at the 2014 Inglis Sydney Broodmare Sale.  She was carrying the Lope de Vega (Ire) filly who has furnished into a goldmine with earnings of $461,800 topped up by $120,000 in Westspeed bonuses.

Mizlecki was part of the Yarradale consignment at the 2016 Perth Magic Millions but failed to make a $30,000 reserve and was leased to Kersley and his wife Judith.  Prior to surgery, she had won at Listed level in the Raconteur Stakes, Sheila Gwynne Quality and Belmont Oaks.

Miss Strezelecki has a yearling filly and a weanling colt by Gingerbread Man and she was covered by War Chant in October.
