War Chant (USA) debutant Power And Passion continued the tremendous season for Paul Jordan and his juvenile team at Belmont on Wednesday.
Power And Passion let down from last on the corner to win the TAB Touch 2YO (1000m) in a blanket finish from Brave Contender (Snippetson) and Protected Action (Safeguard). “I felt he may have needed further than 1000m,” Jordan admitted as the $26 winner returned to scale. “But when they straightened, I thought, ‘Oh, he can really win this’.
“He trialled terrific the other day. He hunted up and then careered away from the others after the line. Specialism has been the pick of our two year-olds but this bloke will keep improving when he steps up to 1300m and 1400m.”
Power And Passion is raced by Harvey Crossman’s Lima Syndicate in partnership with Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers, Chris Chalwell, Paul Van Loenhout, Rita Saddik, Gary Dickie, Lorraine Atherton, Delys Hogan, Dave Harding and Jordan’s wife Laura.
They purchased Power And Passion for $60,000 from the 2018 Yarradale Stud Yearling Sale. His dam Passion Cantata (Oratorio) was also raced by the Lima Syndicate for 6 wins in Perth and a Group 3 placing in the 2012 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic.
Jordan has leased his War Chant yearling sister and their brother will be catalogued for the 2020 Perth Magic Millions. Passion Cantata is due to Bradbury’s Luck off a November cover last year.
Yarradale Stud has several yearlings available for sale and/or lease at Gidgegannup. The full list can be viewed here
War Chant completed an opening double at Belmont when Over There won the Tracy Lee 60th Birthday Hcp (1650m) for trainer Neville Parnham and her Victorian owner-breeders Brian and Joan Durran. She is from a half-sister to their Group 1 sprinter Regal Roller.
War Chant stands for an $11,000 at Yarradale alongside Bradbury’s Luck, Gingerbread Man and Heritage who are all priced at $4,400. Service fees (inc GST).
