Rejuvenated sprinter Gingerella can go some way to off-setting the loss of a much-loved Gingerbread Man stakes winner last week by winning the G3 Fortune Bowl (1400m) in Singapore this Sunday.

Gingerella was a promising fifth in the G1 Lion City Cup (1200m) at Kranji last May but came out of the big race with chips that required surgery.  She resumed in Class 2 sprint over 1000m on January 10 and looked all over a winner when striding up to race-leader Lim’s Dream on the corner.

But the lack of match-fitness told in the straight and she had to fight back for a neck decision in 58.29s.  Her 7-start stats now stand at 4 wins and 2 seconds for owner Joe Singh and trainer Michael Clements.

“The operation turned out to be a blessing in disguise,” stable foreman Michael White said after the first-up win.  “She needed a good break and she’s come back a bigger and stronger mare.  She’s always had heaps of ability and we knew she would feel the pinch late tonight.”

Singh raced Gingerbread Man to Championship honours as a 2YO and 3YO in Singapore before retiring him to Yarradale Stud.

Gingerella won a Bunbury 3yo maiden for Singh and trainer Simon Barrass before transferring to Singapore.  She is the third winner for Jestervale (Real Jester) who is an unraced half-sister to the dam of The Rising (G3 Colonel Reeves Stakes).

Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) sired Ginger Jones to win at Caulfield on Boxing Day and his recent Ascot winners include Essential Spice, Red Can Man and Coming Around who is on a hat-trick after another odds-on result last Saturday.

Gingerbread Man can strike again when his 2yo fillies Little Talks and Ranga Roll debut in the TABtouch Maiden (1016m) at Bunbury on Monday.  They have both been placed in trials this month.

Sadly, there’s been an awful flip-side to good run with news Neurological has been put down after fracturing a cannon-bone at trackwork.  The Gingerbread Man sprinter won last year’s LR Farnley Stakes at Belmont, Fitzpatrick Hcp at Albany and Batavia Hcp at Geraldton.

Neurological ($329k) was second only to Gingerbread Man flag-bearer Achernar Star ($922k) in terms of prizemoney but he was a hero to everyone at Martin Allen’s stables at Ascot.

Achernar Star has moved with Lindsey Smith to Warrnambool for an autumn carnival campaign in Melbourne.  He won last year’s LR Bunbury Stakes and LR Grandstand Cup at Ascot and was only beaten a length when fourth in the G1 Railway Stakes in November.

Gingerbread Man has 8 yearlings entered for the 2020 Perth Magic Millions and the market leader could well be Yarradale Stud’s half-brother to three-time stakes winner Mizlecki (Lot 65).
