Not for the last time this year, Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man weighed in with another city-winning double on Saturday.

The latest brace came courtesy of well-timed, front-running rides on Red Fifty Three (Willie Pike) and Ginger Flyer (Chris Parnham) at Belmont.

Red Fifty Three was always in control of the Glenroy Chaff Plate (1200m) to remain unbeaten after two starts this month.  He was bred at Yarradale Stud by Sue Hanratty and is raced by a syndicate managed by Elio Galante.  “We will probably get another run into him before a spell,” co-trainer Grant Williams said.  “The summer carnival will come a bit early so we may look at the Magic Millions.”

Yarradale Stud sold him for $42,500 at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions and he's already earned $102,600 with a Westspeed contribution of $50,400. His dam Lady Valorem (Ad Valorem) has a yearling filly by War Chant (USA) and she foaled a filly by Gingerbread Man last month.

The 2022 RL Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m) worth $200,000 will be run at Pinjarra on Saturday, February 5.

Ginger Flyer also made every metre in the TABtouch Westpeed Platinum Hcp (1400m).  She was all out in the final stages but kept finding to defeat Al Di La (Dick Turpin) and Snippy Miss (Snippetson).  It was her first win at Belmont following two victories at Ascot last year.

“She put the writing on the wall first-up and the best part about today was the last 50m,” trainer Simon Miller claimed.  “They were coming from everywhere and she looked beaten four or five times.”

A homebred for the late Neil Cayley, Ginger Flyer is a full-sister to Perth winner Phanta who won on debut at Ascot last season before a transfer to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in Sydney.  Their dam Dubi Dubi Do (Dubai Destination) descends from G1 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Not Related (Family Ties).

“The shorter straight at Ascot is more suitable and I will probably freshen her up and go there again,” Miller added.  “This one’s for Neil who passed away not long ago and I’m sure he was up there cheering her on today.”

Cayley also bred Gingerbread Man’s recent Adelaide winner Tommy Blue.  She won at Ascot for Miller last season and new trainer Gary Searle has nominated the mare for Morphettville again this Saturday.

Gingerbread Man can count on Almaher Man making an impact this season.  He was runner-up in two Ascot nurseries earlier this year for Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers in partnership with trainer Fred Kersley and his wife Judith.

“Fred wanted to give Almaher Man a decent spell so he only returned to work in August,” Yarradale manager Bernie Hamill reported this week.  “He's a three-quarter brother to Mizlecki.  She's in foal to War Chant (USA) and is in the Hunter Valley to be covered by So You Think at Coolmore Stud."

Mizlecki won four Stakes races in Perth for Sayers and the Kersleys.  Her sire Lope De Vega (Ire) and Gingerbread Man are both sons of Sheikh Mohammed’s Champion racehorse and sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway).

Yarradale stands Gingerbread Man for $5,500 alongside War Chant ($11,000) and Bradbury’s Luck ($3,300).  All fees (inc GST).
