Yarradale Stud has purchased black-type mare Lady Chant outright for $210,000 at the latest Magic Millions Online Sale.

Lady Chant (War Chant) won last year’s Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m) and then embarked on an interstate campaign that included a Group 3 placing in the SA Classic (2500m) at Morphettville. She was bought as breeding proposition only after her racing career was curtailed following a tendon injury in December.

Yarradale bred Lady Chant (pictured) and kept a share after selling her to Singapore owner Constance Cheng for $180,000 at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Standing 16.3hh, the 4yo mare is one of four winners from former Darley mare Verse (Quest for Fame)

Verse was purchased for $30,000 by Belmont Bloodstock as agent for Yarradale as an unraced broodmare prospect at a Darley Reduction Sale in 2010. The following year one of her earlier foals Lamasery (Commands) added more black-type to the page in the G2 Hill Stakes at Randwick.

She has another tall yearling filly by Playing God that has been retained by Yarradale.

War Chant (Danzig) is the damsire of 481 individual winners and among them are 32 Stakes-winners headed by Arrowfield Stud’s successful Irish-bred Group 1 shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) and 2019 Kentucky Derby winner Country House (Lookin At Lucky).

A day after Lady Chant returned to the fold, Yarradale-bred mare Excelestial won the Amelia Park Hcp (1200m) at Ascot. Last Wednesday’s victory was her third in five starts since transferring to the south-west stables of owner-trainer Robert Witten last September.

Excelestial (6m Excelebration – Yardi Yardi by Snippetson) is from a half-sister to Torio’s Quest (G2 Queensland Guineas) and Bippo No Bungus (LR Starstruck Classic). Yardi Yardi, like Verse, was purchased by Belmont Bloodstock for $25,000 on behalf of Yarradale at the 2016 Inglis Broodmare Sale.
