Rapidly improving mare Malkar Pindari notched a milestone 300th win for Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man in the Amelia Park Hcp (1500m) at Ascot on Saturday.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that Achernar Star opened Gingerbread Man’s stud account on debut at Belmont.  It was the start of a career highlighted by Listed victories in the Grandstand Cup and Bunbury Stakes.  He earned over $1 million and was also placed in a Group 1 Kingston Town Classic for Amelia Park owner Peter Walsh.

Malkar Pindari had earned black-type as a maiden when runner-up to Man Crush (Manhattan Rain) in the RL Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1200m) at Pinjarra in February.  The 4yo mare has blossomed this season after being beaten as a $1.30 favourite first-up at Northam in August.

“I apologised to the owners that day and they were very good about it,” Miller recalled.  “She was always going to need blinkers but was showing so much behind the scenes I kept holding off.  When the shades did go on they made all the difference."

Malkar Pindari (pink cap) has won all bar one of her last four starts – that sole loss was a narrow decision when just failing to catch Laquetta's Gift.  Chris Parham timed Saturday’s win to a tee.  He sent her circling the field on the corner and she ran right through the line at the end of 1500m.

Her 3yo unraced full-brother Bosun was a $65,000 buy for Bill Godecke at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions and her latest sibling is a yearling half-sister by War Chant (USA).

A half-hour after Malkar Pindari, Goldfields galloper Born And Bread made it 301 wins for Gingerbread Man in Kalgoorlie.  The 4yo grey mare was well overdue to break her maiden in the Saltbush Pastoral Company Hcp (1100m), nevertheless, it was a welcome win for trainer Paul Rowe and her catalogue page.

Born And Bread’s pedigree was already in place as a half-sister to five winners.  She’s the final foal of Born Princess (Elusive Quality), a Moonee Valley-winning daughter of Yarradale’s Karrakatta Plate winner Born Priceless (Pricelessly).

Yarradale landed a third weekend win on Sunday and it was hardly a surprise when Little Silver spaced his rivals as a $1.40 favourite at Albany.  He was a front-running Ascot winner for a Steve Wolfe-managed syndicate in May and can continue using those tactics to advantage during the Great Southern’s summer season.

“He made light work of it to come away with an easy four-length win,” Wolfe said.  Little Silver (Exosphere) was a $40,000 Yarradale graduate from its draft to the 2021 Perth Magic Millions.

His dam Platinum Power (Commands) was a Mornington winner in Yarradale’s colours and she has a yearling filly by Astern.  It’s the immediate family of Stakes winners Lady Chant (War Chant) and Lamasery (Commands).

Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) has a 61% winning strike-rate and he stands for $5,500 at Yarradale Stud alongside War Chant (Danzig) at $8,250.  Both fees (inc GST).
