Sparingly-raced 4yo mare Enchanting Sound has given Yarradale Stud sire Gingerbread Man a second Saturday win in a row at Ascot.
Never closer than three-wide from an outside gate, Enchanting Sound tackled the leaders halfway down the straight and then sprinted again to deny Yarradale homebred Lucky’s Way (Bradbury’s Luck) in the Westspeed Platinum (1200m).
Gingerbread Man’s April 6 winner Malkar Pindari notched her fourth city win this season for new trainer Simon Miller in the Peters Investments Hcp (1200m). She’s another 4yo mare by the Yarradale stallion and other city winners from that crop include Ima Single Gal, Berbere and Fluro Neuro plus provincial winners Loopy's Baby, Native Flower, Ginger Charm and Born And Bread.
They’re from a crop of just 21 foals in 2019. Gingerbread Man fell from favour between 2017 and 2019 with just 80 mares in three books. A revival reflecting his success at finding a consistent winning groove saw 301 mares covered in four books from 2020 to 2023.
Enchanting Sound is trained by Neville Parnham for Majestic Lodge owner Jo Borg and had been placed five times in town since winning a Belmont 3yo maiden in December 2022. “We always knew she had ability and it's good to see her measuring up,” Parnham said. “She’s a strong filly and has progressed from her spring prep.”
Bred and sold by Gold Front Thoroughbreds, she’s the final foal of Ms Chief Bound (Commands) and was an $18,000 graduate out of the 2021 Perth Magic Millions. Her dam also foaled earlier Gingerbread Man winners Allaboutthecraic and Choncape.
Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) can play a hand at the $5 million The Quokka meeting at Ascot this Saturday with Run Pattie Run (Furphy Hcp) plus Red Can Man & Phanta (Joey Plate).
