No Brainer is bred to be a black-type galloper and he’s shown black-type potential with an unbeaten start to his career at Bunbury and Belmont.
Bred and sold by Yarradale Stud for $110,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions, he won first-up in the south-west a fortnight ago and doubled up in the Bisley Workwear Hcp (1300m) in town a week before he turns four.
“The owners have been very patient,” trainer Dan Morton said at Belmont on Wednesday. “He was feeling himself early on so we let him mature, mature and mature. He’s still new and the blinkers helped him win at Bunbury and here today.”
No Brainer is by Coolmore Stud’s G1 MVRC Cox Plate Champion So You Think (NZ) and he’s a younger half-brother to Mizlecki (Lope De Vega) who won at Listed level in the 2018 Raconteur Stakes, Sheila Gwynne Classic and Belmont Oaks. She reached a career-high in Yarradale’s colours the following season with a four-length victory in the 2019 Old Comrade Stakes.
In-form hoop Brad Parnham completed a winning treble on No Brainer after tracking front-runner Magnachine (Lean Mean Machine) into the straight. He duelled with the favourite One Punch (Star Witness) down the centre of the track and came again after being headed to score by three-quarters of a length.
“That was a tough win,” Parnham reported. “He responded under pressure and was up for the fight before getting to the line nicely.”
Parnham’s first-leg on Wednesday was aboard Natural Gem in the Morley Growers Market Maiden (1000m). She’s also a promising Yarradale-bred 3yo by So You Think (USA). And like No Brainer, Yarradale kept a share after selling her to Neville Parnham for $200,000 at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions.
Yarradale tapped into No Brainer’s family when buying his dam Miss Strezelecki (Al Maher) for a mere $8,000 at the 2014 Inglis Sydney Broodmare Sale. She was carrying Mizlecki and her final foal is a Star Turn filly purchased by Karen Kersley for $50,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions.
Mizlecki was retained by Yarradale and owner Lyn Sayers sold her So You Think (NZ) colt to Pearce Racing for $100,000 at the Swan Valley in February. She has a weanling colt by Darley shuttler Palace Pier (GB) and was covered by Playing God last October.
Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) will stand at Yarradale for a $5,500 (inc GST) service fee this year. Stud manager Davy Hanratty can be contacted for bookings or further details on (08) 9574 6490 or 0429 326 904.
