Prospector's Pick has booked a trip to the Goldfields carnival on the back of an all-the-way victory in the 7Plus Hcp (1200m) at Belmont.
Bred and sold by Darling View Thoroughbreds, he had been freshened up by trainer Simon Miller after a winter prep highlighted by a runaway Pinjarra maiden win in June. He was eager to go faster after crossing the field for Chris Parnham on Wednesday and had enough in reserve to hold out Stormageddon (So You Think).
“He has a good strike-rate off a break and fired up from the wide gate,” Miller remarked. “He has ability but is still raw and only knows one way to go.”
Prospector's Pick (4g Snippetson - Top Show by Stratum) was a $130,000 buy for Miller from Western Breeders Alliance (as agent) at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions on behalf of a syndicate managed by Chris Calwell.
Miller is targeting the $100,000 Ron Sayers Memorial (1100m) on Saturday, October 5. It’s the feature sprint at the Kalgoorlie Cup meeting and the first two editions have been won by Can't Be Done (All Too Hard) and Ain't No Other Man (Gingerbread Man).
“It’s a good race to win and many of the owners have an affiliation with Ron and Kalgoorlie,” Miller said. “Ron sold the first yearling I ever bought at the sales. I purchased numerous fast horses off him and he also gave me some good ones to train.
“Ron was a legend and now I’ve got the right horse at the right time to win his race.”
Prospector's Pick (Photo / Western Racepix) is the fourth winner from four foals out of Neville Parnham’s multiple city winner Top Show. Darling View bought her for $26,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions Winter Sale and she foaled a Playing God filly in August.
