Gingerbread Man longshot Main Act landed the first-leg of a running double for Yarradale Stud in the Hygain Hcp (1000m) at Pinjarra on Saturday.

Main Act (3g Gingerbread Man - West End Theatre by Rogano) sprinted down the crown of the straight-course while several of the more favoured runners were searching for clear air closer to the grandstand rail.

Defying a $25 quote, he continued to lift for jockey Jess Valas in the closing stages to prevail by a long-head and head over Scenic George (Snippetson) and Real Deluxe (Sessions).  Karnup trainer Bob McPherson bred and races him in partnership with his wife Jan and Betty Lammie.

Main Act had won at Ascot in April and McPherson decided to give him a short break instead of an extended spell.  “He had trained off but I sent him up to Wayne Kiely to freshen up on the water walker.  He’s been working well since coming back and Jess rides him so well.”

Yarradale sire Gingerbread Man got him from West End Theatre who is an older half-sister to Playhouse Patron (Patronize).  He won the LR George Towton Cup (2200m) at Ascot in December for the McPhersons and Lammie and the mare has a filly foal by Ridgeport Farm sire Ducimus (Snitzel).

Former Yarradale stallion War Chant (USA) completed a Pinjarra double for the Gidgegannup nursery when On Patrol came from the clouds to claim the Westspeed Platinum Hcp (1200m) for Bullsbrook trainers Sean and Jake Casey.

Front-runners Frappuccino (Maschino) and The Great Hoya (Patronize) had spaced the chasers on the corner but they were quickly rounded up by Money Trees (Rommel) who looked home when he took a split for Lucy Fiore.

On Patrol (4g War Chant - Artie’s Belle by Artie Schiller) wasn’t within sight at the top of the straight before parachuting in from another postcode for Craig Parnham.  “He doesn’t muster much speed from the gates and Sean told me to stay wide,” Parnham said.  “We were in the three-wide line with cover but still a long way back.

“My instincts told me to go inside of the horse that was stopping in front of me but I rode to instructions and it worked.  He hit top gear in the final 75 metres and really monstered the line.”

On Patrol was racing first-up since a summer prep that garnered just the one Belmont win in nine city outings.  A homebred for Victorian-based Brian and Joan Durran, he has banked $238,000 with Westspeed Platinum tipping in $76,450.

His older full-brother Civvy Street (War Chant) has won two races apiece at Ascot and Belmont for the same connections and their dam Artie’s Belle has a 2yo colt (Parish Play) and yearling filly (Parish Party) by Playing God and her latest foal is a weanling colt by the Darling View Champion.

Yarradale will stand Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) for a $5,500 service fee (inc GST) this year. For bookings or further information, contact stud manager Davy Hanratty on 0429 326 904.
