For the first time since 2012, there won't be any War Chant (USA) foals at Yarradale Stud this year but there’s still numerous new winners springing up for him now and into the new season.

The War Chants to salute this month include his maiden winners Triple The Chant (Northam), Lasting Legacies (Kalgoorlie) and Taboo To Love (Murray Bridge).

Triple The Chant (3f War Chant - Triple Latte by Medaglia d'Oro) is trained by Simon Miller and has enormous residual value for Rapid Equine owner-breeders Neil and Annie Irvine when she eventually retires to Balmoral Park at Bedfordale.

“It was encouraging to see her prick her ears and go on with it,” Balmoral Park stud manager Brian Collison said.  “It was a peach of a ride from Joey Azzopardi who always rides well for us.  She star-gazed a bit in front but will improve once she has more race experience under her belt.

“She has an engine under the hood and once the penny drops and she starts to hit her straps I think we will have some fun with her.  She’s a November foal and Neil and the team have been patient with her.  Hopefully, she will reward us and continue to progress through the grades.”

War Chant (Danzig), who died in April 2024, sired her from USA-bred mare Triple Latte (Medaglia d’Oro) who foaled six winners topped by Smart Missile sprinter Triple Missile (LR Bunbury Stakes).  Her final foal is a rising 2yo by Godolphin sire Bivouac (Exceed And Excel).

Agent John Chalmers had purchased Triple Latte, on behalf of the Irvines, for $24,000 at the 2017 Inglis Great Southern Sale when she was carrying Triple Missile.  Second-dam Miss Mary (Southern Halo) was a Group 2 winner bred in Argentina and her full-sister Miss Linda won a G1 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland.

The Yarradale team will commence foal watch this week expecting the latest crop by Gingerbread Man.  Among his early September covers last year were Everymile A Memory (Choisir), Femmette (Murtajill), Mygirlfrankie (Myboycharlie) and Stella Anne (Galah).

Yarradale will stand Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) for a $5,500 service fee (inc GST) this year. For bookings or further information, contact stud manager Davy Hanratty on 0429 326 904.
