The owners of Make My Own Luck regretted their decision not to pay up for the Magic Millions when Houtzen won the $2 million 2YO Classic last Saturday.

A week earlier, Make My Own Luck had been runner-up to Houtzen on the Gold Coast.  “The $5,000 fee wasn’t paid when she was sold at the Magic Millions,” trainer John Zielke said.  “They’re ruing that decision now.”

That was her third start for Zielke and now he’s lining up some stakes races at the winter carnival.  She had won at Toowoomba on debut and was only a half-head short of Champ Elect in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at Doomben in December.

“We’ve had an opinion of her for a while.  The Champagne Stakes and Sires' Produce Stakes are the sort of races up her alley.”

Make My Own Luck is by Yarradale Stud sire Bradbury’s Luck and cost owner Evan Hartly $40,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions March Sale.  Her dam Dots And Spots (Piccolo) is an unraced daughter of speed-machine Ossie Cossie (19 wins to 1200m).

Brisbane favourite Natural Destiny is another stakes winning grey from the immediate family.  He swept the 2006 Summer Series and is now at stud in New Zealand after commencing his stud career at Willowbend Stud in Queensland.

Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute’s Choice) also started in the Sunshine State before transferring to Yarradale Stud last year and he’s going better then ever this season with a string of city winners like top mare Col 'n' Lil.  She won at Eagle Farm on New Years Eve and then finished two lengths away from Stratum Star in the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy last Saturday.

His lightly-raced grey Luna Fiore landed the latest win in a Doomben maiden over 1350m on Wednesday.   "We added blinkers and decided to ride her forward,” trainer Tony Gollan said after his mare firmed from $16 into $10 .  “She will win better races at 1600 metres.”
