Fresh from a Group 2 triumph with Valour Road (Frost Giant) in the Lee-Steere Stakes (1400m) last Saturday, Yarradale Stud returned with a running double at Ascot on Wednesday courtesy of City Angel and Ima Single Gal.

City Angel (5m City Place – Flying Angel by Flying Spur) was a Belmont maiden winner for trainer Jayce Buckley in February before transferring to Steve Ryan last month.  She didn’t waste any time settling into her new surroundings with an all-the-way victory in the Amelia Park Hcp (1000m).

“I’ve only had her for two weeks,” Ryan said.  “She arrived in fantastic order from Jayce but can be a bit feisty.  She’s been very consistent against some handy horses and would have won a few more races except for bad barriers.

“We thought she might have been in season so that was a bit of a worry today but Maddi (Derrick) was able to get a couple of cheap sectionals in front and that helped her kick in the straight.”

Brunswick-based Elvira Park owner David Moore bred and races her with a large syndicate after buying her dam Flying Angel for a mere $500 from Yarradale (as agent) at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions Winter Sale.

Flying Angel was carrying City Angel who is from the final crop of Yarradale’s Storm Cat sire City Place (USA).  She has a Maschino 2yo named Gaspardo with Steve Wolfe and foaled a Playing God filly in September.

Yarradale’s in-form stallion Gingerbread Man struck again with Ima Single Gal in the Lexus Of Perth Hcp (1200m) on Wednesday.  She also led from barrier-to-box to make it back-to-back wins in a class-record 69.69s.

Ima Single Gal is a Yarradale homebred and graduated from a maiden to a Class 3 after going winless in her first eight starts.   “That was huge,” co-trainer Chris Gangemi said.  “She had to work to get across and was attacked before the bend.  She held on strongly and is starting to realize the potential we’ve seen at home.

“She can be a bit field-shy so letting her roll along in front makes a difference and hopefully she can now develop into Saturday-class mare.”

Ima Single Gal (4m Gingerbread Man – Single Spice by Not A Single Doubt) is a full-sister to Ima Single Man who won the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) in 2020 for Yarradale and Gangemi Racing.  Their dam Single Spice has a 2yo filly by Blue Point (Ire) with Grant and Alana Williams and yearling filly by Toronado (Ire).
