Perfect Chant was an $80,000 buy for Pearce Racing from Yarradale Stud at the 2023 Perth Magic Millions and that will be repaid in no time on the back of a very impressive debut at Belmont.
She is a 3yo daughter of Toronado (Ire) from Chantski who was the first Australian-bred black-type winner for Yarradale stallion War Chant (USA) in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) of 2015.
Perfect Chant had won two Lark Hill trials last month and went out a $2.90 favourite first-up against a smart field of 3yo sprinters in the Perth Racing Staff Plate (1200m) on Saturday. She sat outside the speed and kept up a strong gallop in the straight to defeat stablemate Blue Rocket (Blue Point) and Rise To Glory (Rommel).
“Her work has been top-notch against some of our better older horses,” co-trainer Dan Pearce revealed. “She’s developed into a nice cut of a filly but is still raw and our only concern was that she’s not mentally there yet. It wasn’t easy watching her face the breeze but she has an engine and was too good.”
Winning jockey Chris Parnham had been aboard in the second Lark Hill hit-out and he liked the way she responded when asked for an effort on raceday. “I felt her ability in that trial,” he said. “She’s still doing things wrong but I expected she would collar the leader like that today. She is an exciting filly going forward.”
Perfect Chant is the fourth winner for Chantski following Final Authority (Zoustar), Torpedoman (Street Boss) and Stormchaser (Impending) who was last seen flying home for a slashing victory at Belmont in July. Saturday’s win was worth $65,840 in prizemoney and Westspeed bonuses for a Pearce Racing syndicate that includes Yarradale Stud and Simon York.
Yarradale also figured in the Gascoyne on Saturday with Carnarvon Cup (2000m) winner Gambler's Gold. The Darryn Pateman prepared gelding was the second leg of a winning-double for War Chant (USA) following War Tactics for local trainer David Black.
Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) is standing for a $5,500 (inc GST) service fee at Yarradale this season. Stud manager Davy Hanratty can be contacted for bookings or further details on (08) 9574 6490 or 0429 326 904.
