Williams Racing is marshalling a strong team for Bunbury’s stand-alone Saturday meeting and Perth’s premier stable can double up in the LR Bunbury Stakes (14000m) and LR Bunbury Cup (2020m).
The two feature events of the south-west season carry combined prizemoney of $300,000 and stable jockey Willie Pike has been booked for $2.35 favourite Watch Me Rock (Awesome Rock) in the Stakes and Captain Pluto (NZ) who heads a wide-open market at $4.40 for the Cup.
Grant and Alana Williams can also saddle an early double in front of a big crowd with Terratif (Awesome Rock) and Fluro Neuro (Gingerbread Man) before signing off what could be a huge day in the lucky last with Essentric Nature (Savabeel).
Fluro Neuro (Photo / Western Racepix) had been nominated for the Bunbury Stakes before his connections decided to go with an easier option in the City & Regional Fuels Hcp (1400m) on Saturday. He’s on a hat-trick off a seven-day break for a Belhus Racing syndicate managed by Peter and Karen Morley.
Stable rep Jas McAuliffe was in a positive frame of mind when interviewed after his convincing victory over Memory Parade (War Chant) last weekend. “We’ve been really happy with him at home and he will get out to a mile,” she predicted. “The girls were pleased with his final work leading up to today.”
Jockey Clint Johnston-Porter became his regular partner with a win at Belmont last June and knows how to handle him to best effect. “I let him do his own thing and there were no problems sitting without any cover today. He’s been a handy pick-up ride and is a real workhorse.”
Fluro Neuro was bred and sold by Yarradale Stud for $75,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions Sale and he’s now banked $324,000 including Westspeed Bonuses of $32,000. His blue and white colours are flying for Belhus Racing and Perth's leading syndicator bought another four fillies and two colts at the Perth Magic Millions.
Yarradale resident Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) also sired his full-brother Neurological to win the 2019 LR Farnley Stakes (1200m) at Belmont and their dam First Game (Soldier’s Tale) has another Gingerbread Man yearling colt with trainer Paul Jordan.
