Fluro Neuro completed a hat-trick for Gingerbread Man on Bunbury Cup Day before the Yarradale Stud resident followed up with Main Act opening his account at Ascot on Wednesday.
Main Act (Photo / Western Racepix) was racing first-up since an initial campaign late last year for Karnup trainer Bob McPherson and his wife Jan. They bred and race him in partnership with Dalyellup-based Betty Lammie.
He wasn’t the best away in the MCA Hcp (1200m) but made up ground quickly to be sitting behind pacemaker Sesh (Sessions) and the favourite Blue Rocket (Blue Point). Jessica Valas eased off their heels into the straight and he put the race to bed in next to no time.
“He didn’t trial but has been working well,” Valas revealed. “He towed me around to the barriers and that was a super win. He put himself into the race and was always travelling.”
McPherson said Main Act is still maturing. “Everything was new to him during that first prep. He’s related to Playhouse Patron and all the family take time. He can kick on from here and go through the grades.
“Jess does all the work on him at home and rode him really well today. She has good hands and is there every morning.”
Main Act (3g Gingerbread Man - West End Theatre by Rogano) is the first foal from an older half-sister to Playhouse Patron (Patronize) who won the LR George Towton Cup (2200m) at Ascot in December for the McPhersons and Lammie.
West End Theatre has a 2yo son of Ducimus named On Cue with McPherson and she foaled a filly by the Ridgeport Farm sire in October.
Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) has another new winner waiting in the wings named Koondakaara and the breakthrough could come as early as this Friday night in the Hygain Maiden Plate (1200m) at Cranbourne. Koondakaara was runner-up when resuming at Pakenham last month for owner Joe Singh who raced Gingerbread Man to five black-type wins in Singapore where he was the Champion 2YO & 3YO in 2010 & 2011.
