2012 YARRADALE STUD YEARLING SALE

Yarradale sale average rises to $44,536

Scandal Keeper’s star continued to rise at the Yarradale Stud yearling sale on Sunday.  His filly from La Folie topped the sale at $160,000 and his colt out of Vaunted (NZ) made $102,000.

Scandal Keeper (Danzig) was originally based at Darley before transferring to Yarradale in 2008.  He has a 100% record at stud - his first six starters all are winners.

Overall, the Yarradale Sale grossed over $1.82 million at an average of $44,536 which was an increase of 11% on last year.  Local buyers made up the bulk of the buying bench with leading owners Keith Biggs and Craig Thompson (Mt Hallowell Stud) along with trainers Lindsay Smith and Paul Jordan all securing six figure lots.

The sale-topping Scandal Keeper filly will join the Mt Hallowell team that includes G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Luke’s Luck, G1 filly Hallowell Belle and G2 WA Guineas winner King Saul.

Biggs claimed his 23rd Group 1 success last week with Sea Siren and his Strategic - Bracken Bank colt was equal top-priced at $160,000.  The youngster is closely related to the Biggs owned G2 winner Elite Falls.

Damon Gabeddy of Belmont Bloodstock was also active acting as agent for Segenhoe Stud.  He returns east with fillies by Dubawi ($90,000) and Exceed And Excel ($80,000).

Yarradale owners Ron and Lyn Sayers hosted the Stud’s fourth annual yearling sale on a glorious afternoon in the Perth Hills at Gidgegannup.  The Sayers family are great supporters of Redkite (supporting children and young people with cancer and their families) and again donated all bar takings to the organisation along with the proceeds of the Zentsov Street - Pennywest colt that changed hands for $22,000.

2011 YARRADALE STUD YEARLING SALE.

In glorious sunshine, Ron and Lyn Sayers conducted their third annual yearling sale at Yarradale Stud on the outskirts of Perth, Western Australia on Sunday, May 8. A beautiful relaxed setting in the Perth Hills with plenty to eat and drink along with roses and cake for all the ‘mums’ that ventured out on a lovely Mothers Day.

With 73 yearlings going under the hammer by a variety of local, interstate and international sires on offer, there proved to be plenty to choose from for buyers. With the “Karrakatta Plate Bonus” on offer and the fact that Yarradale Stud will retain and pay up for a 50% share in any yearling sold to any trainer, locally or interstate, this again ensured a strong buying bench was on hand. The local buyers were certainly strong again, making up the bulk of the buying bench with leading local trainers, Dan Morton, Steve Wolfe, Lindsey Smith, Neville Parnham, Trevor Andrews and Vernon Brockman all buying three or more lots each at the sale.

There were five lots that reached the six figure mark with Lot 38, the bay filly by STREET SENSE (USA) from LA MELBA (Grand Lodge) realising the top price of this year’s sale making $180,000 to the bid of leading WA owner Keith Biggs Enterprises. This well admired filly was a quality type and is out of a half sister to Group 1 winner FLAVOUR. The filly is also a half sister to the exciting young horse in the Darley stable of Peter Snowden, Raspberries, a three time winner in Sydney and who recently ran second in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes over the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Shaun Dwyer, the former Queensland trainer who is now getting well established down in Victoria made up for the disappointment of being underbidder on the sale topping lot earlier in the day by securing a daughter of the exciting first season horse SOLDIER’S TALE later in the sale. Also active from over east was Belmont Bloodstock acting as agent for Nigel Blackiston, who purchased lot 1 in the sale, a colt by REFUSE TO BEND the same sire as his nice three year old Right of Refusal. Vin Cox Bloodstock purchased a colt by the former champion juvenile in the US, STREET SENSE (USA) and he is set to race out of the NSW stable of Gary Portelli.

All in all, whilst the market is perhaps not as buoyant as we have seen in previous years, the results were pleasing and a good number of yearlings have found their way into leading stables.
